Mr. Harvey who revels in colour and abundance. His specialty is annuals for all seasons. He loves the fleeting colour massed into borders and corridors, creating different displays each season.
Mr. Newton runs a busy local and internet floral business, John Newton Design-4flowers. His busy studio is located at the Quarter Acre Paradise and is a focal point for visitors within the gardens.
Nearby, two 6 metre high conservatories provide a startling subtropical & indoor garden atmosphere to be enjoyed all year. The conservatories open onto a woods walk, then a central lawn encircled with exotic specimens, bulbs, annuals, climbers and hardy perennials, including colourful North American specimens with shrub borders.
A cut-flower meadow also helps supply Mr. Newton's floral shop. High terraced garden beds and winding paths feature a wide range of spring bulbs that give way to begonias, lilies, and masses of summer flowers. Then autumn foliage mixes with late-season colour, followed by continuing displays throughout winter in the conservatories plus a pond featuring a large selection of water lilies and plants with a small water cascade.
Exotic trees from almost every continent provide shade, with Cypress and Karaka wind breaks. The skyline as seen from the spectacular rooftop gardens, features other natives, including Totora and Titoki, under planted with shrubs and ferns. Grape vines, ornamental, citrus, and other fruit/nut trees were planted by Dale’s forebears over three generations.
