Toorak Jungles

Toorak Jungles - Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
toorak jungles 01-230x153Melbourne, Australia, Mr Harvey created a unique nursery concept featuring botanical displays which demonstrated inexpensive, creative approaches to land improvements.

Each week the community was offered a completely new botanical spectacle as the old displays were sold off. Education programmes for the schools and public, civic and senior citizen projects and special events all emphasized environmental awareness and the beautification of Australia.

The site for the nursery was a very large and unsightly car yard opposite the Malvern Town Hall. All displays pictured here are in pots on the gravel car yard. Mr Harvey staffed the nursery with senior citizens and unemployed youth he trained himself.

One of the many environmental classes Dale Harvey and John Newton introduced to the local school children. They were given tasks in the nursery to find and document, draw their favorite flower and write a brief summary on it, this then was taken back to the classroom where they stood up in front of the class and presented a talk on the subject.

Often the entire car yard display garden area would completely sell out during a single weekend sale.

The displays were designed so that individuals could select from the display and recreate their own display garden at home or at their business. toorak jungles 07-153x230Melbourne's unique climate allows for both cool weather temperate gardening as well as subtropical planting.
